Justification for copyrights

Copyrights for the books published by the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust are maintained in order protect the fidelity of the bonafied instructions they present. Just a Lord Krishna personally explains to Arjuna in the Bhagavad-gita, His instructions were originally provided to the sungod, Vivasvana, but in course of time these divine instructions were lost. Krishna therefore was again imparting these transcendental instructions to Arjuna. In order that the instructions provided in our books are not lost due to misuse by unscrupulous authors, protection by copyright is required.
For the spiritual upliftment of humanity at large we are publishing so many books throughout the world, however for these books to have a positive effect in bringing about a spiritual revolution in peoples lives they must presently purely. To that end we protect their content in a responsible fashion. This action is taken not out of some false sense of proprietorship, for as you point out - Krishna is the ultimate proprietor of everything.
