Free will

November 06 , 2007
Hare Krishna, and thank for sending us your question.

Understanding the intricacies of Krishna's external energy is difficult, but your reliance on the instruction of Bhagavad-gita for proper guidance is very commendable.

Lord Krishna is the ultimate sanctioning factor in all our activities in this material world. However, we do have our minute free will due to our spiritual nature. With our free will we can choose whether to properly utilize this human form of life for spiritual advancement, or to continue to pursue material enjoyment. If we choose the path of sense enjoyment by exploitation of this material world for our selfish enjoying tendency then we become subject to the stringent lays of material nature. Therefore, although you are correct in your understanding that ultimately Krishna is controlling everything, His control is like that of a loving parent. The parent gives good instruction to the child, but the child can choose to either follow the advice of the parent, or neglect it. The good and bad reactions (karma) that result from our not following Krishna's good instruction are dependent upon our proper use, or misuse, of free will.

A devotee "does everything for Krishna" by agreeing to fully follow His good instruction, as provided in Bhagavad-gita and other bonafide spiritual sources, out of love for Him. If one can adopt such a course of action in his life Krishna assures in Bhagavad-gita that He will protect such a sincere devotee from all sinful reactions in this material world.

In this Krishna consciousness movement we are therefore recommending the simple process of chanting the Lord's holy names as the purifying agent by which we can fully awaken our spiritual consciousness and express our love for Lord Krishna

Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare

Please continue to take advantage of Lord Krishna's instructions in Bhagavad-gita by regulated study and adopt this chanting on a daily basis. You will quickly make firm spiritual advancement, and ultimately be freed from the sufferings of this material world.

Sincerely,
Dulal Chandra dasa
